Working Lands Initiative Law Informational Meeting
Are you planning on leaving your land to your children?
Are you planning on selling portions of your land to supplement your retirement?
Are you concerned how the state and county regulates land division?
If you have answered yes to any of these questions, you need to attend this meeting!
In 2010, the Richland County Zoning and Land Records Committee has been pursuing the adoption of the Working Lands Initiative law into the county zoning ordinance.
Numerous public informational meetings and public hearings were held throughout the year. Because less than 5% of the total acres in Richland County were represented by property owners at those meetings, the committee chose not to act on the proposal. What this means for landowners is a continued payment of almost $1,000 per acre conversion fee for every acre that is rezoned out of the General Agriculture and Forestry zoning district. The new law also regulates how you can divide your land.
The Committee would like to get more input from landowners so we are again holding informational meetings in 2011.

The first meeting will be held on January 8, 2011 at 1:00 PM.
