Farmland Preservation Program Participants

The Richland County Land Conservation Committee has approved and adopted a revision to the Richland County Soil and Water Conservation Standards for the Farmland Preservation Program.

This was done in order to comply with state standards that went into effect October 2002.  These standards are the DNR rule NR151, which sets performance standards and prohibitions for farmers, and the DATCP rule ATCP50, which identifies conservation practices that farmers must follow to meet performance standards.  The DATCP rule also sets requirements for nutrient management plans.

Some Key points of the Run-Off Rules are:
* Follow a nutrient management plan
* Prevent direct run-off from feedlots or stored manure into state waters
* Limit livestock access to state waters
* Maintain manure storage structures to prevent overflow
* Close abandoned structures according to accepted standards
* Meet technical standards for newly constructed or substantially altered structures.

To find out how these changes affect you, contact our office at (608) 647-2100

Dear Farmland Preservation Participant;

The State of Wisconsin requires that all participants, either by an agreement with the state or exclusive agricultural zoning in your township, must follow an approved soil conservation plan. A member of the Richland County Land Conservation Department must monitor this conservation plan at least once every five- (5) years for compliance. Also, participants are required to personally certify compliance with their conservation plan each year in order to remain eligible to receive their tax credits.Also, be sure to check your conservation plan for any practices that need to be implemented this coming year. Should you have any questions please feel free to contact our office at (608) 647-2100. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.  Remember you or your operator needs to be working on getting soil tests done for your Nutrient Management plan

Sincerely,

Kent Marshall
